Resolution · diagonal · density

Calculate screen pixel density without guessing.

Enter native width, height and visible diagonal to get PPI, pitch and physical dimensions.

Formula and worked example

How to calculate screen PPI

PPI = √(width in pixels² + height in pixels²) ÷ diagonal in inches.

For 1920 × 1080 px on a 24-inch screen: the pixel diagonal is about 2202.90717 px, so the density is 91.787799 PPI.

Convert PPI to pixel pitch

Pixel pitch in millimeters = 25.4 ÷ PPI. At 91.787799 PPI, the pitch is about 0.276725 mm.

Resolution alone is not enough

Use the panel’s native pixel width and height plus its active visible diagonal. The same 1920 × 1080 resolution has a different PPI on screens with different diagonals; operating-system scaling does not change physical panel PPI.

The estimate assumes square pixels and an accurate active diagonal. It does not rate perceived sharpness, viewing distance, subpixel layout, printer DPI, or medical-display suitability.
